Before the Throne of God Above
Meditating on the Mediation of Christ
I was moved tonight by listening to one of my favourite hymns, "Before the Throne of God Above", it wasn't just the music or the tune - this song is so packed with gospel truth that I can hardly sing it without a shaky voice. If this song doesn't resonate with you, you need a new heart - one that only God can give...
Consider some of the words of this song...
Consider some of the words of this song..
"I know that while in Heaven He stands, No Tongue can bid me thence depart".
Jesus Christ is creator of the universe, He is king over everything, but HE is also our mediator in Heaven before God, our advocate pleading our case. There is NO tongue greater than His, when you belong to Him you are secure in His love. There is NO voice, NO power, NO authority that can overule His sure promise of our salvation.
The apostle Paul writes to the same effect, "I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way." (Ephesians 1:18-23)
"For God the Just is satisfied, to look on Him and pardon me."
God is infinitely Holy! If you think you have something going for you that might impress God, think again! You have sinned, you are an offense to God, you are accursed, you stand condemned. Do not think Him your friend, but rather you are an enemy. Unless of course, there is one who can stand in your place, one who can satisfy the wrath of God's justice that you deserve.

"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Corinthians 5:21)
United to Jesus, God's wrath against us is satisfied, He looks at Jesus and the punishment he suffered for me, and my debt is paid. I have forgiveness and am declared righteous in Him.
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)
